BIOGRAPHY

In addition to completing a BFA in Visual Art at Simon Fraser University and a MFA in Studio Art at the University of Victoria, I studied drawing, fresco painting and painting restoration in Italy, working in Firenze as an apprentice to a painting restorer. I have exhibited my art and photography locally and internationally, and have also worked as an art writer, writing catalogue essays on visual art, architecture, photography, film, and popular culture.
My teaching experience includes work as a University-College Instructor in the Visual Art Department at Malaspina University College (now Vancouver Island University) teaching courses in Photography, Drawing, Painting, and Art Theory. I was also a Faculty Instructor at the Vancouver Island School of Art, teaching a wide variety of courses and workshops, that included Drawing, Painting (Gouache, Watercolour and Egg Tempera), Renaissance Drawing and Painting Techniques (Fresco, Egg Tempera, Gilding, Silverpoint) and thematic courses on Artist Books, Creative Cartography, Urbanism, and on the intersections between Art, Science and Natural History. While completing my MFA in Visual Arts at the University of Victoria, I worked as a Teaching Assistant in Drawing, Painting and Art Theory courses. While working on a MA In the Department of History in Art at the University of Victoria, I was a Teaching Assistant for several years for the Introduction to Art History and Introduction to Film Studies courses.
Most of my creative work as a visual artist has been photography or sculpture based and I have been happily photographing pretty much steadily since the age of ten when I received a Kodak Brownie Starmite camera as a birthday gift.
